Greetings Everyone, I’m sitting in the Sonoma County Branch of the Sebastopol Library with the intent of bringing you up to date on the past four days. We drove this morning through intense wind, noting downed trees along I-280 and flooding at various places including Mill Valley. This resulted in a power outage in Monterey County. Our friend Sheila who lives there sent an email Dec. 14: “The whole central coast from Big Sur north to the Bay Area has had/has outages. I don’t think our power will return soon. 45,000 customers out of power in Monterey County — a whole lot of us!”

Left early from our beach bluff campground at New Brighton State Beach, site #74 right across from bluffs above the beach this morning. During the night wind and surf and rain created a steady roar and beat. Highlights of our four night stay? Listening to KKUP 91.5. Great music curating that formed the sound track to sitting in Marion and preparing a yam/lacinato kale salad from the Pie Ranch in Delores. We brought it to Bridget and George’s for dinner. Bridget, who we’ve known since Nov. 1973, recently remodeled her home and told us its outcome exceeded her expectations.

One day we drove to Pescadero where we enjoyed authentic Mexican Food at Mercado & Taqueria De Amigos before driving up the coast to Butano State Park, a little visited redwood park whose campground is closed due to the 2020 big burn caused by lightning strikes. It was newt mating season and we rescued a couple of the amphibians from the road.

And, we celebrate the gracious space and bonhomie held by Eva Wax and Jacob Pollock at their welcoming home in Santa Cruz. We know the couple through Jacob’s late mum, my great friend Urashan, who passed from her earthly body in March 2021. Jacob’s sister joined us and has asked that I respect her request for privacy. So, no mention of her name. She is also a wonderful human and great listener.

Time to go! We’re staying with friends Ruth and Jack Dunlap in Sebastopol before heading up the coast tomorrow. Home in a week. Happy mid-Advent, everyone! Bajada Bill and Cactus Kate

Hello Claudia. We’re camped near Brookings on the Oregon Coast. Back to rainy NW weather. Meanwhile, looking forward to seeing you and Chuck soon. We return home 12/21. My niece Kali and her boyfriend Dallas will stay with us 12/26-12/30. Chuck once said Dallas reminded him of himself. Perhaps we can all gather during their visit at our place. Love, Kate
